Camp Adair-Pancho Villa to the Cold War

June 17 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Free

What does Pancho Villa and atomic bombs have in common? Come and find out with presenter Gary Richards.

In 2010, Gary took up the hobby of geocaching. He soon found that the old WWII Cantonment of Camp Adair was a hotbed of geocaches. Because he lives nearby, the old Camp Adair site continues to be on of Gary’s favorite places to geocache and explore the area’s history.

Gary acquired John Baker’s book,  “Camp Adair”, and was soon on his way to becoming some-thing of a local expert. Gary is active in the Adair Living History organization and rubs elbows with the staffs of local museums, including those at the Polk County Museum.

Gary says, “It is amazing where a seemingly harmless hobby can lead a person.”
